I Wonder Why I Bother

I am serious!

Unrelentingly, unapologetically,

irredeemably serious.


No word, no if and or but

that does not lead to a wall

that needs tearing down.

 

It’s just that there’s no time

and besides, it’s too bleak


or I’ve forgotten where I put my glasses

and you keep interrupting . . .

 

If it were not for the bird

at the end of this sentence

 

I wouldn’t try at all.
