So-To Sing
Oranges are delicious
and volatile-inspiring
mischief & romance
So-to hold a fire
in one’s hands
like ice or a kiss
or maybe they
suddenly blossom
into love making
two in-two one.
If you’re counting
or frowning,
who can say
you’re wrong!
After all one
is one
and all alone
and evermore
shall be it so,
Green Grow the Rushes, O
(That was fun!
Even if it was not
much of a poem,
still it leaves one
singing.
What
more could one
Ask!*
(*‘So-to’ is a salute
to Gary Soto
who speaks of
peeling an orange
So-to make a fire
in his hands.
(The triple paren-
theses are a nod
to Falconer.
Some say he
& the falcon
& the wingèd
Word became One.)))
