You shouldn't hesitate
to set me straight.
I am as I am
and am not
what I would be.

It's not your job.
It's just what a friend
or more than a friend
would do.

I hope I have a few.

Truly I am getting older
and, sad to say,
I've grown no wiser.
Yet, because of you
I 'feel' at least
I'm getting younger.

Though I'll never be
as beautiful as you,
(and truth be told,
I never was) I pray,
heart to heart,
to someday be
as beautifully
dumb as you,

though at my age
wiser folks may use
a different word
and say,
"The man's a fool.
Stay away."
I hope you don't.

Fools like me
are hard to find.
